  • Homophone A wordplay device where a word that sounds the same as the definition has a different meaning. For example, "pair", "pare" and "pear". 
  • Charades A clue that breaks the answer into parts and defines them sequentially, similar to the game of charades. 
  • Hidden answer indicator Words like "some", "partly", "amid", or "in" can indicate that the answer is hidden within the clue.
